I won’t say no to an out-of-the-blue update to this three-year-old, free, Mario-themed FPS demo-

The phrase “Super Mario FPS” conjures up a certain image for me: a custom Counter-Strike: Source gun game map maybe, or a really edgy Doom WAD like the so-rad-they-took-it-down Bikini Bottom Massacre. Something in the spirit of, ahem, “tribal” tattoo Mario, basically. Developer Sean Noonan’s Super 1-1, on the other hand, is more of a wholesome, good-hearted take on the concept.

We first reported on Noonan’s concept back in 2019, and the developer gave it a full release early the next year. Nintendo’s crack legal division seemed to give it a stay of execution, and that looked like the end of things until just this week. On March 11, Noonan published an update to Super 1-1 that adds new collectibles, back-end tweaks, and rendering updates. The full changes are listed here:

Ghibli-inspired shopkeeping sim Saleblazers lets you clobber angry customers with a chair-

Correction: The announcement originally indicated that Saleblazers is in early access today. It is not: The early access launch date is September 29.

As announced in the PC Gaming Show, open world shopkeeping survival game Saleblazers offers you the opportunity to start an enterprise on a mysterious island inspired by the cozy homeliness and the colorful adventure of Ghibli movies.

Working with friends in co-op, you must build a store and stock it with goods to sell to the locals. There are many customers to charm on this sandbox island—skint students, tourists with the money to wave away any baggage limitation, and militant shoppers intent on crossing swords with the manager. While you might opt for honest work gathering, farmi…

Sony’s PC obsession continues with in-depth DualSense Edge customisation on your PC-

From the first-party exclusives, PS VR2 adapter, and this most recent push to allow for DualSense Edge customisation on PC, I’m starting to think Sony is warming up to this whole PC gaming malarky.

About time, too.

For its latest ode to PC, Sony is opening up support for customisation of its DualSense Edge controller on PC. This is done via the PlayStation Accessories app, which used to be the “Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller” app—I can see why they changed the name. Providing you download the latest version (2.0.0.13) from its official website, you can try it out right now.

One thing to note: this only works for the DualSense Edge, Sony’s premium controller pad. The app doesn’t open up options on the significantly cheaper DualSense. I made the…

Razer’s first hot-swappable mechanical keyboard will let you mix and match switches-

Have you met anyone who is really into mechanical keyboards? You know, really into mechanical keyboards? They could talk your ear off about the trade-offs between 5-pin switches, tactile keystrokes, and artisan Pokémon keycaps. I’m certain they would have something to say about Razer’s new keyboard.

BlackWidow V4 75% is Razer’s first hot-swappable mechanical keyboard that will swap out not only the just keycaps but the actual switches themselves without having to dismantle the keyboard or do any de-soldering.

The Razer BlackWidow V4 75% is a smaller ten-keyless version of the BlackWidow V4 Pro we checked out earlier this year. It also differs from its larger cousin in the ability to hot-swap its preloaded orange switches to the ones you choose, not just Raz…

Steam Next Fest’s 10 most played demos of June 2024 include an adorable building game, a surprising turn-based strategy spin-off, and a survival shooter where everyone’s a duck-

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and as usual there’s an absolutely ridiculous number of demos available to try. Today, Valve’s reached out to let us know the ten that have most captured your collective attention, earning more plays than any others.

The full list is:

  • Once Human
  • Level Zero: Extraction
  • Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown
  • Tiny Glade
  • Wizard of Legend 2
  • Metal Slug Tactics
  • DUCKSIDE
  • The Alters
  • BUS: Bro u Survived
  • Dungeon Clawler

Lots of good stuff in there. I suspected Tiny Glade would do well after enjoying viral success on TikTok—plus it’s just a wonderfully charming little builder, as Lauren discovered earlier this week. Level Zero: Extraction isn’t too surprising either…

The greatest hat in all Diablo has surfaced in Diablo 4-

Looks like Diablo 4 has Diablo 2’s most powerful hat, as Blizzard has now confirmed a Harlequin Crest drop in the new action RPG. Harlequin Crest may not be a name that means much to you if you didn’t play hundreds of hours of Diablo 2 or Diablo 2 Resurrected, but the unique hat—called Shako by veterans for the class of items it was based on—was a staple of nearly any powerful build. Blizzard’s global community development director for Diablo, Adam Fletcher, confirmed the drop of a Harlequin Crest for Korean players via Twitter: “Can confirm they do indeed have a Harlequin Crest :),” he said.

That legacy will probably live on, as reported by wowhead, because the Diablo 4 Harlequin Crest is a beast. It’s got a bonus to everything every class build wants: life, resource …

Starfield’s studio design director pleads for people to stop asking questions because only ‘Todd Howard himself is authorised to talk’-

Emil Pagliarulo, Studio Design Director at Bethesda Studios, a man who has been with the company for over 21 years, had to take to Twitter yesterday to say that he cannot, under any circumstances, spill the space beans on Starfield. This comes after relentless online questioning that, in the run up to the game’s release, has clearly reached fever pitch.

“I know this isn’t what any [Starfield] fan wants to hear from me, but I feel like I need to make this clear: no one other than Todd Howard himself is authorised to talk publicly about unreleased game info,” Pagliarulo wrote. “You have tons of questions. I get it. … I am SO humbled by your anticipation of Starfield. Seriously. It’s mind boggling to me. So it really does pain me to say that I simply CAN’T answer 99% of your q…

The Walking Dead- Betrayal halts development and will be pulled from Steam just three months after launch-

The Walking Dead: Betrayal, a social deception-survival game about zombies and worse (the “worse” in this case being non-zombified other people), is coming to a premature end. Skybound Games and developer Other Ocean Interactive announced today that it has decided to halt development of the game, which just launched in early access in September, and remove it from Steam completely.

“Despite the hard work put into the game, we were not able to find a path to build the spirited community of backstabbers we originally envisioned,” Skybound wrote. “On December 11, we will begin the process of removing the game from Steam, and as of December 15 the game will be shut down. All players who purchased the game will receive a full refund.”

I thought The Walking Dead: Betrayal looked l…

Twitch suspends Aussie prankster for ‘self-harm’ after he pretends to stick forks in toasters with silly FX and a Rickroll-

The story of Boggles first came to my attention several weeks ago, after a tweet containing some clips of his material went semi-viral and Twitch slapped the young Australian with a 30-day ban. The videos are fake incidents of him pretending to stick forks in toasters then being electrocuted, the joke being he kept doing it to more and more toasters over time.

“We’ve reviewed your content (video) and we’re concerned about you,” says Twitch’s email to the streamer. “If you’re currently struggling or feeling unsafe, please reach out for help, talk to someone you trust, contact your doctor or go to a local hospital.”

It goes on to say that Boggles’ content has been removed because “suicidal or self-harm content is not allowed on Twitch.” The email directs the recipient to a men…

Ubisoft has ‘paused’ advertising on Twitter-

Ubisoft has confirmed that it has joined other major companies who have paused advertising on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, following a Media Matters report which claims that the platform has been running ads for companies including Apple, IBM, NBCUniversal, and Comcast owner Xfinity next to pro-Nazi content. X denies that regular users will see such ads next to extremist content, claiming that Media Matters intentionally manipulated a feed to produce that result.

The list of companies who have halted activity on X is long and potentially extremely damaging for a platform struggling with a decline in advertising revenues: IBM, Apple, Disney, Warner Bros, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Xfinity, Sony, and others have all opted to stop running ads, at least tempor…

Valve shuffles some crates around on beloved Counter-Strike map, some fans react like it shot Old Yeller- ‘The more I think of this, the more upset I am’-

Valve has released a new update for Counter-Strike 2, and changed a minor feature near the Counter-Terrorist spawn in the game’s most popular map, Dust 2. Per the release notes, the developers have “modified crate stack outside CT spawn towards bombsite A”, which doesn’t sound like much, but oh my is there some weepin’ and a-wailin’.

The change is to a spot just left of CT spawn and beneath the raised A bombsite on Dust 2, from which players used to be able to boost one another up to an area called catwalk: a common tactic in the first seconds of the round, because it helps the CT defending catwalk or short mid to get into position faster. Valve has changed the crate layout in this area, such that one player can now easily access this shortcut with a bit of jumping, without…

Where to find the High Banks weapon and gear crates in Once Human

Tracking down the High Banks weapon and gear crates, when you first visit the hilltop town in Once Human, is the trickiest part of its exploration, but you’ll need to find them if you want to complete every objective in the Explore High Banks mission. The town itself isn’t too big, but there are quite a few buildings to investigate, plus a lot of monsters roaming around who make your job harder.

While the Mystical Crate is easy to find—guarded by the elite enemy in the centre of town—the other two are a little way out, so it’s understandable if you missed them. All that said, here’s where to find the High Banks weapon crate and gear crate to complete those objectives and get some loot.

Victoria 3’s latest DLC adds a whole bunch of historical figures including Lenin, who’ll agitate for a bit of revolution-

Paradox has released a new “immersion pack” for the excellent Victoria 3, called Voice of the People and focusing on a slew of new (old?) historical characters and an ‘Agitator’ mechanic. The immersion pack name is something the company’s hit upon to distinguish between the scale of the DLCs it releases for its titles: These are the smaller ones (though it’ll still set you back $14.99/£12.99/€14.99) with Victoria 3’s first major expansion yet to be detailed.

Wordplay aside, Voice of the People also adds a deeper simulation of French politics of the century, which sits very nicely alongside that Agitator system. The latter will see individual characters appear that push for political reforms which governments, bluntly, don’t want. Given the era this means there ar…

World’s best chess player loses tournament after ‘horror mouseslip’-

World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen exited an online tournament on Thursday after accidentally moving his queen to the wrong square, allowing rival Hikaru Nakamura to take it with his king and ultimately win the match. Chess.com called the move a “horror mouseslip” for Carlsen, who left the event in third place with $15,000.

After beating Carlsen in that armageddon match (a special ruleset for tiebreakers), Nakamura went on to win the Chessable Masters tournament and its $30,000 top prize on Friday, putting him ahead of Carlsen in the rankings for this year’s multi-event Champions Chess Tour.

The result of Carlsen’s fatal misclick can be seen in the screenshot above. At the top right of the board, Nakamura’s king (black) can be seen capturing Carlsen’s defenseless quee…
